Meet Dr. Patel

blankRonak Patel, D.O. is a native Texan. He attended the University of Texas at Austin graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Economics. He went on to attend Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth Texas in which he graduated with honors. He was in the top 5 in his class and obtained the President’s Scholar award, given to students who maintained Dean’s list throughout every semester in college. Dr. Patel is a Board Certified General Surgeon by the American Board of Surgery.

He is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). He is Fellowship certified by the ASMBS as well as the fellowship council. He has presented Posters at the annual Obesity Week in the past. Dr. Patel has a strong interest in Bariatric Surgery and the maintenance of weight loss after. He teaches weight sensitivity courses for medical professionals at the hospitals that he works at as he knows the difficulty of weight loss, the importance of it, and the difficulty with expressing the need for help by a patient.

 

 

 

blankDr. Patel completed his surgical training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Medical Center. There he received extensive General Surgery and Trauma training at the Busiest Level 1 Trauma Center in the U.S. by physicians such as Dr. James “Red” Duke and Dr. John B Holcomb. He then went on to the University of South Florida for fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopy and Bariatric Surgery. Training was extensive in Laparoscopic Foregut surgery including but not limited to Nissen Fundoplication, Distal Pancreatectomy, Splenectomy, Bowel resection, Colon surgery and Bariatric surgery with an emphasis on revisional surgeries. He has also completed DaVinci Robotic Surgical Training and has received the SRC Surgeon of Excellence in Robotic Surgery.

Currently, Dr. Patel practices in Northwest Houston with surgical privileges at Houston Northwest Medical Center, Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center, Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, and Tomball Regional Medical Center, and St. Luke’s Hospital at the Vintage and Woodlands. He is also the current Chief of Surgery at Tomball Regional Hospital and is part of the Emergency Trauma teams at both Cypress Fairbanks and Houston Northwest Hospitals.
